The Nasarawa state Governor Abdullahi Sule, has cautioned religious leaders over a provocative video in circulation that can incite crisis in the state.
Governor Sule gave the warning during an emergency meeting he held with religious leaders at the Government House in Lafia, the state capital.
He said that the emergency meeting followed some videos trending on social media a few days after the presidential and national assembly elections that are capable of inciting followers of the two religions against each another if immediate action was not taken.
The Governor who noted that Nasarawa state is one of the most peaceful states in the country and is not known for religious disaffection, called on the leaders to be vanguards of peace and consider the state first before any other thing.
Similarly, the Leaders of Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI) and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, called on their members to remain steadfast and resist any attempt by politicians to use them to cause crisis during the elections.
Secretary of JNI, Imam Muhammad Ali and CAN Chairman, Reverend Sunday, during a joint press briefing shortly after ther emergency meeting said they have resolved to work closely with traditional rulers as well as security agencies to identify any of their members whose activities are capable of truncating the peace before and after the Governorship and House of Assembly elections.
