The Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has presented a proposed N188, 229, 295, 887. 63 billion budgets for the 2022 fiscal year before the State Assembly for consideration.
Tambuwal said the budget tagged “budget of Accomplishment and Sustainable Development” aims at consolidating all successes recorded in the year 2021.
According to him, despite the security challenges being faced by the state in 2021 and other economic predicament which affected all the states in the federation, Sokoto has recorded tremendous successes in the implementation of last year’s budgets.
He said the achievements was made possible through the collective support of individuals and commitments to transparency and good governance “and we are now determined to consolidate on the achievement recorded so far”.
Governor Tambuwal said government share of Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) and Statutory revenue stands at 74, 727, 811, 323 naira, while independent revenue stands at over 24, 937 billion naira.
Tambuwal also added that grants and aid stand at over N23,750, 7590,000.
He explained that recurrent expenditure stands at N40,508,434,02.58 and other recurrent costs stand as N35, 362,769, 281.86 with subtotal of N75, 777,0768,750 while capital expenditure remain at N112, 558, 292, 563.89 respectively.
He said education has the lion share of N37,06, 032,670. 92, followed by health with N28,806,855,774.52 and Agriculture with N22, 551,438,538.42.
“20% of the budget goes to education, while healthcare the state are meeting the African Union targets of 15%, Agriculture has 12%, infrastructure 10% and others 43%”, he said.
Tambuwal also said recurrent expenditure would be 40.3%, while the capital expenditure takes 59.7% of the budget.
He also asked for the collaboration of the State of Assembly members to ensure speedy consideration of the budgets for timely completion and execution of more development in the State.
Governor Tambuwal also solicited for the cooperation of all relevant stakeholders to tackle security challenges and other form of crimes in the state.
In his remarks, the Speaker, Sokoto State House of Assembly, Aminu Achida, assured the Governor that the house will ensure timely consideration of the budgets.
Achida reiterated the commitment of the House to support the executive arm of government to continue to implement meaningful programmes for sustainable developments in the state.
