Governor to Establish Skill Development Centres in Ebonyi State

The Governor of Ebonyi State Mr Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru in a bid to ensure that every indigene is either directly or indirectly employed, has unveiled plans to establish at least three skill development and employment centres in the State.

 

The State Commissioner for Skill and job creation, Mr Elijah Oko-Udu, disclosed this in Abakaliki, the State capital.

 

The Commissioner said this was in line with Governor Nwifuru’s directives for sensitisation to be given to Ebonyi people at home and in the Diaspora on skill development for employment.

 

“The ministry has written to Laison officers in Lagos, Abuja and the chaplain of Ebonyi State Association of Town Unions (EBSASTU) Anambra. This is a mandate given by His Excellency on 21 June 2023”, he said.

 

The sensitisation exercise for skill Development and empowerment is targeted at ratifying and rebuilding hope for vulnerable people across neighbouring States engaged in hawking and menial jobs.

 

“Bringing them home, ensuring their welfare and training them on skills that is job oriented. Upon completion, empowering them through grants or equipping them”, he said.

 

He noted the government’s anticipated functional skill development and job creation centres in the State which would have a direct impact on the people for employment.

 

“Statistics of the unemployed through the ministry website, the anticipation of the building at least three functional Skill Development and Job Creation centres across the senatorial zones of Ebonyi State”, he informed.

 

The Commissioner disclosed that empowerment packages would be given to participants to encourage small and medium enterprises (SMEs) while recommending skillful individuals to private organisations for employment.
