Governor Yusuf Mourns Kano Accident Victims

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has expressed deep sorrow over the fatal road accident that occurred at Kwanar Barde, along Hadejia Road in Gezawa Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of seven people.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, the governor described the incident as heartbreaking and a great loss to the affected families and the entire people of Kano State.

He extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the repose of their souls, asking Almighty Allah to grant their loved ones the strength to bear the painful loss.

Governor Yusuf also prayed for the speedy recovery of those who sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals across the state.

He directed the Kano State Ministry of Health to ensure that all victims admitted to hospitals receive free and adequate medical care without delay.

The governor further instructed the Office of the Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs to immediately assess the situation and put in place necessary measures to support the families of the victims.

He warned motorists, particularly drivers of heavy-duty and commercial vehicles, to shun reckless driving and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable tragedies.

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano State Command, has confirmed that seven persons died in the crash.

The confirmation was made in a press statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CRC Abdullahi Labaran.

According to the FRSC, the accident occurred on Sunday, February 8, 2026, involving a DAF commercial trailer with registration number KTG 467 YG.

A total of 105 persons were involved in the crash. While seven lost their lives, 70 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The statement revealed that, “The FRSC received a distress call at 8:35 a.m., and a rescue team arrived at the scene with Preliminary investigations attributed the crash to over-speeding and loss of control, compounded by the dangerous practice of conveying passengers alongside goods.”

The injured victims were evacuated to Sir Sunusi Specialist Hospital, Gezawa General Hospital, Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, and Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital, Nasarawa.

The FRSC commiserated with the families of the deceased and advised motorists, especially commercial drivers, to avoid over-speeding, reckless driving, and the illegal conveyance of passengers in goods vehicles, warning that such practices continue to result in needless loss of lives.
