The Kano State Governor in North West Nigeria, Abba Kabir Yusuf has expressed deep shock over the sudden death of two serving members of the Kano State House of Assembly, who passed away on the same day.
The governor’s reaction was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature.
Governor Yusuf described the near-simultaneous demise of Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, representing Kano Municipal Local Government Area and Chairman of the House Committee on Pilgrims, and Aminu Sa’adu, representing Ungoggo Local Government Area and Chairman of the Appropriation Committee, as a dark and heartbreaking moment in the history of Kano State.
He said, “The tragedy has plunged the government and people of the state into collective grief, stressing that the loss of two vibrant and dedicated lawmakers within hours is a painful development that words can hardly capture.”
According to the governor, the deceased legislators were committed public servants, loyal party men, and dependable voices of their constituents, whose contributions to lawmaking and grassroots representation were invaluable.
Governor Yusuf noted that, “Kano State has lost two sons who devoted their lives to public service, adding that their sudden passing has created a painful vacuum in the Assembly and in their respective communities.”
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, the leadership and members of the Kano State House of Assembly, and the people of Kano Municipal and Ungoggo Local Government Areas.
The governor prayed that Allah (SWT) forgives their shortcomings, grants them eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, and gives their families and the entire people of Kano the strength to bear the monumental loss.
Governor Yusuf also called on the people of the state to remain calm, united, and prayerful, describing the incident as a test of faith and collective resilience.
Hon. Aminu Sa’adu has since been laid to rest at the Ungoggo Cemetery, while the funeral prayers for Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji are scheduled to take place by 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the Emir’s Palace Mosque.
“On behalf of the government and the good people of Kano State, we extend our condolences to the Kano State House of Assembly under the leadership of the Speaker, Jibrin Ismail Falgore, and the families of the deceased lawmakers. May Allah grant them Aljannatul Firdaus,” the statement added.
