Governor Zulum awards scholarship to orphans of slain civilian JTF

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has flagged-off a scholarship scheme worth three hundred million naira in support of 300 orphans who lost their parents in the fight against insurgency in the state.

 

In a series of humanitarian gesture, the governor set up a committee on the 1st of June 2022 to identify and verify the orphans left behind by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), hunters, vigilantees and volunteers who were at the forefront of the war against terror and eventually paid the supreme price.

 

The governor who said the scheme is to acknowledged the effort of the fallen heroes of the state, is to cover all educational needs of the 300 orphans throughout their basic education levels before further support at future levels of education.

 

Zulum had during his 2020 budget presentation promised support for the orphans under the ‘Borno Heroes Support Program’. 

 

Also at the event, Governor Zulum announced a livelihood support of N15m to mothers and guardians of the benefitting orphans.

 

Each of the 300 mothers/guardians will receive N50,000 along with a bag of rice, a bag of maize and clothing materials.

 

Furthermore, Governor Zulum raised the allowance of the CJTF, hunters, vigilantees and volunteers from 20,000 to 30,000 monthly, in appreciation of their relentless efforts and sacrifice.

 

Zulum also approved end of the year bonus for all the volunteers in which each volunteer will receive an additional one-month salary as a bonus.
