Governor Zulum Supervises Distribution Of Food, Non-Food Items

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state has supervised a comprehensive distribution of food and non-food items in Bama Local Government Area of the state.

This is an initiative by the State Government to alleviate the hardships faced by the people.

Highlighting the challenges faced by the people of Bama, Governor Zulum emphasized the impact of Boko Haram on rendering limited access to agricultural land, amidst the nationwide surge in food prices.

Addressing the specific needs of the community, Zulum supervised the distribution of cash and clothes to 45,000 vulnerable women who receives 5000 naira each and a wrapper, while a total number 25,000 men received 25kg of rice and 25kg of maize each.

Governor Zulum conveyed the broader scope of these relief efforts stating: “this is not exclusive to Bama alone, we have been providing such palliatives across various LGAs since 2015 to date.”

 

In a commitment to further tackle the challenges, Zulum shared his plans upon return to Maiduguri.

He expressed the intention to engage with stakeholders in the food industry, major dealers, and all essential item vendors saying that the goal is to explore avenues for reducing the prices of both food and non-food items.

Governor Zulum also addressed a critical issue in the supply chain, stating, “some food vendors buy in large quantities to stock and later sell at an exorbitant price.”

To tackle this, he announced plans to convene with traditional rulers to address the root causes of food shortages.
