In a bid to enhance food production in Borno state, the State government in collaboration with the Victims Support Fund (VSF) has organized a training program for 30 extension agents many of whom are victims of the Boko Haram insurgency.

The Commissioner of Agriculture in the state, Bawu Ba Musami, stressed the importance of the training during a session held at the ADP office in Maiduguri.

He expressed concern over the recent dry spell experienced by the state, posing a threat to food security in the North-East region.

Musami emphasized that the training is particularly important to boost agricultural productivity, especially in the context of dry season farming, while emphasizing that the training is knowledge-based.

He stated that the trainers are committed to providing essential guidance to farmers on enhancing food production.

Borno state is an agrarian state which has a very fertile land, to this end our farmers need to have more knowledge on dry season farming which we believe will enable us to boost our food production.

“The state government in collaboration with the Victims Support Fund (VSF) is going to empower the trainees with improved seedlings and some stipends to ensure that they regain their livelihood.”
