Greenhouse farming will create jobs for IDPs

An expert, Rufus Durodoye, of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, has explained that greenhouse farming can create employment opportunities for schools, internally displaced persons, refugees and others as well as boost food security in Nigeria.
Durodoye stated this while delivering an online presentation in Abuja, saying, agriculture had the potential to foster the economic and social integration of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees and also enhance the agriculture value chain, such as tourism and care services.
He added: “Given the right support and assets, they have the potential to not only feed themselves and their families, but enter lucrative markets and prosper. Many originate from rural areas and hold valuable agricultural skills as crop producers, livestock keepers or fishermen.”
According to Durodoye, they could also contribute to local economic development, benefiting other refugees in their host communities in the process.
