Group Agitates On Oral Hygiene

The KB KLUB of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, has said poor oral hygiene can lead to chronic diseases, including hypertension and diabetes.

Speaking at the General medical and dental outreach held by KB KLUB and Alliance for Oral Health Across Borders at the Akerele Primary Health Center, Akerele, Surulere, General Secretary, KB KLUB, Oluwatosin Madehin, said, “The two major chronic diseases that can lead to bad oral hygiene are hypertension and diabetes. These two chronic diseases, by chronic we mean they are long term. They occur for a very long period of time. So hypertension and diabetes are diseases that occur due to poor oral hygiene. The goal of this event is to create awareness of the common risk factors between chronic diseases such as hypertension, and diabetes and its cause-effect relationship on periodontitis.

He advised Nigerians to take care of their oral health, saying it was important for overall good health.

Oral health is important, and good oral health and good hygiene are important for good overall health.”
