A group in Nasarawa state known as the Forum of Ethnic Youth, has called on the federal government of Nigeria, to ban the activities of the recently launched Nomad Vigilante Group, in the state.
President of the forum, Comrade Silas Dauda Yileni, stated this while addressing journalists at the NUJ press center in Lafia, the state capital.
He said the call had become necessary because the formation of the Miyetti Allah’s Vigilante Group was suspicious.
The forum said it cannot imagine that Abdullahi Bodejo, promised to recruit 4000 vigilantes, with the promise to end the security problems in the state within six weeks.
“We oppose the setting up of any suspicious security agency that is not community-based to avoid a situation where they could be used as militia, as such we call for the immediate proscription of the Bodejo’s vigilante group in Nasarawa State and Nigeria at large.”
“We oppose the arming of private security organizations in Nasarawa State, especially given the peculiar security challenges facing Nigeria today,” he said.
The forum further maintained that all the federal government-owned security outfits should be well equipped with gadgets and capacity building for better intelligence gathering and quick response.
It would be recalled that recently, the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani Socio-cultural Association launched the Nomad Vigilante Group comprising 1,144 members.
