The Leader of the group, Ms Sarah Sanda, who made the donation on behalf of the group, said the gesture was to help the hospital’s indigent patients.

She described the gesture as a means of giving back to society.

She said that the group consisted of friends, who grew up together in Jos, with the sole intent of friendship void of religious or ethnic affiliation.

A former Chief Medical Director of JUTH, Prof. Ishaya Pam, who is a member of the group, called on well-meaning Nigerians to assist the indigent amongst them.

The Leader of the league, Rev. Bernard Bitrus, who received the donation, thanked the group for its kind gesture.

Bitrus said their donation would go a long way to assist the indigent patients in the hospital.

He said that the league members made personal donations and also received donations from groups and well-meaning individuals to assist indigent patients with food and toiletries.

He said that they would also utilise part of the cash donation to defray the medical bills of some of the patients.

Bitrus appealed to the public to come to the aid of indigent patients by making donations in cash or kind .

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of JUTH, Dr Pokop Bupwatda, commended the group for its warm gesture and called on well-meaning individuals and groups to emulate the gesture.

“I commend this kind gesture. The humanity in us should spur us to help the indigent, especially those who have medical challenges that cannot afford to pay their medical bills due to their socio-economic status,” Bupwatda said.

The male members of the group also voluntarily made blood donations to help provide blood in the hospital’s blood bank.

Another organisation, Obsidian Medicals, also donated portable vein finders to the hospital.

Receiving the items, Bupwatda thanked the group for its donation and said the item would contribute to the hospital giving quality healthcare to its patients.

The Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, Dr Mashat Mabweh, said the gesture was their way of giving back to society during the Yuletide.
