The Coalition for Transparency and Economic Reforms (COTER) has issued a statement calling upon the Nigerian Government and its security agencies to intervene and prevent a planned nationwide protest by a group, PIDOM, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

COTER, comprised of 259 civil society organizations, issued this call in a press statement signed by its National Coordinator, Adeshina Animashaun.

The Coalition described the planned protest which is to take place in all EFCC offices across Nigeria as another #EndSARS violence in disguise and a disaster waiting to happen.

The Coalition has further advised Nigerian youths against endangering their lives by participating in the protest, as it may result in confrontations with security forces.

“We urge our youths in the entire country to disregard the disguised devilish plans of the masterminds of the forthcoming protests against the EFCC. They are unpatriotic people without character. They do not speak for anyone but themselves and their paymasters and should, therefore, be disregarded.

“The major aim of this planned massive violence is to create panic, fear and anarchy and ultimately scuttle the achievements of the current administration.”

PIDOM NIGERIA, through its X handle, communicated the designation of Friday, July 5, 2024, as the day for a nationwide demonstration by Nigerians at all EFCC offices. The demonstration is intended to address concerns regarding the perceived unprofessional conduct and alleged excesses of EFCC operatives.
