Group Launches Website to Track Implementation of Campaign Promises

A Non-Partisan/Non-Political group known as Haske Kano has launched a website called ‘Kano tracker’ for monitoring and performance measurements of governance in Kano state to enhance the effective and efficient distribution of democratic dividends to the people, especially the grassroots.

 

The State team leader of the group, Isa Surajo at the unveiling at Mambayya House, Kano said the Kano tracker website is a citizen initiative towards tracking and monitoring the implementation of the 14 commitments of the present administration led by Abba Kabir Yusuf as contained in his blueprint during campàigns.

 

“Through the website, citizens will be able to hold the government accountable as it monitors daily activities of the government through budget allocations, Executive Council meetings, awarding of contracts, policies and other activities of the government.

 

“It will also enable learning and adaptation, rather than only for accountability and milestone reporting,” he said.

 

The website with the address www.Kanotracker.org has features for an easily accessible Newsletter via subscription, photo gallery citizen’s engagement platform and feedback.

 

In a presentation, Sufyanu Bichi said the citizen’s charter/ commitment, which the incumbent Governor of Kano state Abba Kabir Yusuf has with the Kano people spans access to quality education, health, agriculture, infrastructure, water, climate change, industrialisation, revenue generation, security, human capacity development among others.

 

He said the website would be used to measure performance indicators of the government in the 14 thematic areas.

“It will be used in tracking resources, feedback on progress, improving project effectiveness, informing decisions, promoting accountability, demonstrating impact and identifying lessons learned,” he said.

 

In a remark, the Principal Private Secretary, PPS, to the executive governor of Kano state, Dr. Faruk Kurawa said the website is a good initiative, which the state government has bought into, as it will enable the public to know what is happening and measure performances of the administration viz a viz, the commitment/blueprint presented to the populace during election campaigns.

 

“The initiative through the website will enable our administration to be commended when the right is done and also be questioned by the public when we do wrong things. My coming here is an indication we are in support of the initiative,” he said.

 

On his part, Bashiru Ishaq of AKCDRD said the website is an opportunity for the Kano people to hold the government accountable for what it ought to do, just as Mohammed Shuaibu of LSDL opined that website is a way to “how best the people of Kano state can benefit from governance”

 

The Haske Kano group comprises Community-based organisations, Civil Society Organisations, traditional rulers, Association of People with special needs, professional groups, Journalists, and academia among others..
