Group Urges Anambra Governor to Aid Flood-Hit Community

A group, Team Make Ogbunike Great (TMOG), has urged Anambra Governor, Chukwuma Soludo to intervene in the menace of flooding and erosion in Ogbunike, in Oyi Local Government Area in Southeast Nigeria.

Dr Harris Chuma-Odili, Leader, TMOG, while addressing newsmen on Wednesday, said that the recent flood damaged property worth millions of Naira and a little child almost drowned in the flood.

Chuma-Odili said that accessing homes during rainfall had become a nightmare in the community as the situation was life-threatening and should be given urgent attention.

He said: “The flood is excessive; it flows into many houses during rainfalls. The last one condemned people’s property worth millions of Naira.

“We are appealing to the state government to come to our aid, to address the root cause of the flooding, tackle the erosion menace and fix the dilapidated roads.

“Many roads are collapsing in Ogbunike due to flooding and consequently posing threat to commuters.

He also called on the relevant government agencies to provide shelters and relief materials for flood victims who had been displaced and faced with deadly health hazards.
