Group tasks Lawmakers on societal interests, national development
The President of Epe Ogunmodede Club, Mr Dele Ibrahim, has urged both the state and federal lawmakers to put societal interest ahead of personal interest for national development.
Ibrahim, who made the plea in Epe, on Friday, added that the nation’s growth and economic development should be the priority of our representatives, not their personal interest.
“The lawmakers and public office holders are elected by their constituents and their people to serve the community, not to serve their pockets.
“The mandate bestowed on them is to better the lives of the constituents and make a law that will accelerate community development, ” he said.
He said that Epe Ogunmodede Club was known for its commitment to promoting indigenous values and fostering societal and community growth.
He further advised the lawmakers to put their constituents first and make a positive difference by representing their people’s interests.
Ibrahim congratulated the newly inaugurated lawmakers at both the federal and state levels while recognising their pivotal role in shaping the future of the nation.
“I call on all the lawmakers not to take their positions for granted but deliver on their mandate.
“They have been elected by their constituents to represent their interests and serve them with honesty, diligence and excellence.
“They have been entrusted with a free political mandate that comes with great responsibility and accountability, therefore, they should be alive to their mandate,” he said.
The club president appealed to the lawmakers not to take their mandate for granted or abuse it for selfish interests. “They must use it to impact lives and make a positive difference in their constituencies and districts.
“They must be guided by the principles and values of justice, equity, progress, and unity.
“They must be loyal to our President and leader, President Bola Tinubu, who has sacrificed so much for the growth and development of Lagos State and Nigeria at large, ” he said.
He further urged the legislators to run an open-door policy, engage stakeholders in their decision making and partner with relevant authorities for community development projects.
“The growth and development of a nation lies in the hands of its leaders and representatives, therefore, they must be called upon to discharge their mandate effectively and efficiently,” he said.
