Groups collaborate with government to demand justice for killings in Jos

In the wake of this attack, many voices are rising from all quarters condemning the killings, sympathising with victims and demanding justice.

Chairman of Jos north local government council Shehu Bala said eneough is eneough of killings and counter killings in the area and called for restraint as security operatives are handling the situation.

Bala called on reaidents “not to take the laws in their hands as efforts are on to apprehend perpetrators for juatice to be served”

Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Plateau State Chapter, Father Polycarp Lubo called on President Mohammadu Buhari beef up security in the state as the situation is beyond the capacity of security on the ground.

“What is happening in Plateau state right now is as a result of statements made by some clerics calling for retaliation.  If people resort to retaliation will it solve the problem on the Plateau? Government should know that everybody has the right to defend himself,”he said.

He called on the federal government to treat all citizens equally.

Executive secretary of the Nigeria Christian Commission Reverend Yakubu Pam in a statement condemned the attack and expressed worry that the state is being set back many years instead of rising from the ashes for sustainable peace and development.

A group calling itself Plateau Progressive Youth is asking governor Simon Lalong to resign or the house of assembly should impeach him for not rising to the occasion to defend the state.

The State is now pitched along religious lines with either side seeing the other as the enemy, the voices of restraint and reason are drowning in the louder angry voices of those wanting violence, to avenge what either side perceives as injustice.

The streets of Jos North are silent as residents are forced to stay indoors counting their losses. Some sleeping with their eyes opened for fear of more night attacks, even with the curfew in force.
