Guardiola Admits City’s Title Hopes May Fade with Liverpool Loss
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has acknowledged that his team’s pursuit of an unprecedented fifth consecutive Premier League title could falter if they lose to league leaders Liverpool next Sunday.
City suffered their fifth defeat across all competitions and a third consecutive league loss with a 4-0 thrashing by Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. Speaking to ESPN after the game, Guardiola admitted that falling 11 points behind Liverpool would make the title race extremely challenging.
“If in the end we don’t win, it’s because we don’t deserve it. We won it in the past because we deserved it,” Guardiola stated, emphasizing his focus on performance rather than results.
Liverpool, who play Southampton on Sunday, can extend their lead to eight points ahead of their clash with City. Guardiola conceded that the gap might become insurmountable at this stage of the season, highlighting the pressure on his side to deliver against the high-flying Reds.
City’s upcoming match against Liverpool could prove pivotal in shaping the direction of the Premier League title race.
