Ahead of Saturday’s Governorship Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State, has began the distribution of sensitive election materials to the 33 Local Government Areas of the state.
The distribution began immediately after an inspection was carried out by the Oyo State Resident Electoral Commission (REC), Dr Adeniran Tella, alongside the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 11 Command, Sikiru Akande, and the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Williams.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the inspection of the materials at the Central Bank of Nigeria, in Ibadan, the REC, Dr Adeniran Tella, described the exercise as a tradition usually carried out in collaboration with security agencies who he said are critical stakeholders in the electoral process.
Tella assured residents of the state that measures had been put in place by the electoral body, in synergy with security agencies, to proactively mitigate against security lapses in the process.
He revealed that the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) machines which had been properly configured had been allocated to all the 6,398 polling units across the state.
Also speaking, the AIG of Police, Sikiru Akande, affirmed that the Agency was set to ensure that the election process in the state in free of violence and security breach.
