Its President, Dr Adesuwa Agbontaen, gave the advice during a familiarisation visit to the Delta Chapter of the guild on Monday in Warri.
He emphasised the need for citizens to visit the guild’s website to confirm genuine and accredited eye care services providers.
The optometrist disclosed that the guild was working out modalities to regulate and rid the profession of quacks.
Agbontaen urged the chapter to improve standards to align with global best practices, urging them to remain focused and united to drive progress in the profession.
Responding, Dr Comfort Omo-Irabor, Chairman of GOODON in Delta, commended Agbotaen for the encouragement, assuring that the chapter would continue to uphold professional ethics and comply with standards.
Omo-Irabor urged her colleagues to discourage quackery and report suspects to the body for necessary action.
