Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has been elected the new President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

In the first ballot, Gusau polled 21 votes to finish first ahead of former Ist Vice President Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi who got 12 votes while the erstwhile League Management Committee (LMC) Chairman Shehu Dikko got just six votes.

Peteside Idah and Abbah Yola got one vote each.

Though, Gusau did not poll the needed 22 votes to automatically win in the first ballot, other contenders opted out of possible rerun.

In the ensuing rerun, Gusau polled 39 votes while Idah got one vote while one was voided.

Chief Aikhunegbe Anthony Malik, who is the Chairman, NFF Electoral Committee, announced the result.

It would be recalled that a ruling by the Court of Appeal on Thursday ordered a stay-of-execution of an ex parte injunction secured by some fellows a fortnight ago to stop the elections.

Representatives of the world football-governing body, FIFA, Solomon Mudege and Gelson Fernandes, who arrived in Benin City on Thursday, witnessed the exercise.

Mudege is FIFA’s Head of Development Programmes for Africa while Fernandes, a former Swiss international player, is FIFA’s Director for Africa.

Gusau, the former Chairman of Chairmen in the last board led by Amaju Melvin Pinnick becomes the 40th man to lead Nigerian football in the next four years.
