According to Nwajiaku, “IVF is a type of Assistive Reproductive Technology (ART). It involves retrieving eggs from a woman’s ovaries and fertilizing them with sperm. This fertilized egg is known as an embryo. The embryo can then be frozen for storage or transferred to a woman’s uterus. IVF works by using a combination of medicines and surgical procedures to help sperm fertilize an egg, and help the fertilized egg implant in the woman’s uterus.”
Dr Nwajiaku made the assertion during a media parley with journalists after the hospital through IVF, facilitated the conception and delivery of a set of quadruplets comprising of a baby girl and three boys.
Nwajiaku disclosed that the blessing of a set of quadruplets came in the morning hours of Wednesday as Mrs Stella Obimma delivered successfully in their facility to the glory of God and excitement of both the medical team and Obimma family.
The Head of Clinical Services said, “Women who seek for IVF in our climes are between the age bracket of 25 to 50 years although the process is not tied entirely to age but indications based on the reason a woman would seek for fertility services.
“For us in the medical field and the entire Fertility team, it is a thing of joy and we are excited for the success story just like the Obimma family because this is one method to solve the challenge of childlessness in our environment and showcase to our people the fact that medical intervention in terms of ART, through IVF, works in our environment and give results.
“We do encourage our people, once you venture into the medical process with your faith and a good medical team, you will surely get the result,” he said.
Dr. Nwajiaku further disclosed that IVF also provides opportunity for sex selection which can be done in their facility as the centre is strongly linked to her mother facility, Life Specialist Hospital in Nnewi, which is a foremost IVF Centre in the South East Geopolitical zone established as far back as year 2010 to date which gave birth to Life International Hospital in 2018.
The medical expert also revealed that IVF process costs between one million and 1.5 million naira which can be paid in installments as drugs needed to stimulate the woman during the period of stimulation comes from abroad with the cost usually influenced by the rate of Dollar to Naira exchange rate.
Responding to the development, the Life International Hospital Paediatrician, Dr. Sylvia Echendu stated that the quadruplets would be monitored closely because they were delivered before 37 weeks of gestation.
In her reaction, a visibly elated mother of four babies, Mr. Stella Obimma appreciated God for the gift of the quadruplets which she described as a special blessing from God having lost a baby the previous year.
“I give God all the glory for this huge blessings to me and my family in the form of a set of quadruplets comprising of three boys and a girl. Just last year, I lost a baby and God heard my cry and prayers by blessing me with four babies, I cannot thank him enough for this moment of joy and giving me the strength to pass through the process successfully,” Mrs Obimma stated.
On his part, the husband, Sir Vincent Obimma could not contain his joy as he described the birth of the quadruplets as a great miracle for him and his wife. The former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the ex Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano on Transport, narrated that they were looking forward to the birth of a baby but God in his infinite mercies gave them four which he described as fulfillment of prophecy to the family.
Obimma informed that they were childless for six years before the birth of their first fruit – a baby girl followed by another before the advent of the quadruplets. He advised couples who are looking for the fruit of the womb to be patient and wait unto the Lord at all times.
