The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has sympathised with the family of a female pilgrim, Alhaja Sekoni Kuburat Adunni who died in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia after the successful completion of Hajj rites.
The 66-year-old pilgrim from Oshodi Isolo Local Government area of the State was reportedly found dead in her hotel bathroom by her room mate.
Lagos State 2023 Amir-ul-Hajj, Mr Anofiu Elegushi while briefing journalists on the development said that the medical team of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON is currently investigating the cause of her death.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, according to Elegushi sent a condolence message to the family of the deceased while commiserating with other pilgrims still in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Governor described Alhaja Adunni’s death as shocking and a loss to the Muslim community while praying for Allah to accept her soul.
Speaking on the scheduled flights back to Nigeria, Elegushi explained that the State will begin with a special flight on Friday 7th of July.
The Special flight according to him will airlift the aged, sick and others with underlined issues, stressing that the airlifting of pilgrims will continue thereafter according to schedule till 22nd of July, which is expected to be the last flight for Lagos State.
The former Commissioner of Home Affairs who thanked the State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Dr. Kadiri Hamzat for their support towards the successful Hajj operations this year, equally appreciated the pilgrims for their cooperation and understanding, stressing that the Lagos Muslim Pilgrims Board will look at some of the challenges highlighted in this year’s Hajj exercise and address them in the coming year.
