Hard Drugs: Anti-narcotic agency arrests suspects in Kwara

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kwara State Command, North Central Nigeria has arrested Drug traffickers in Ilorin

The State Commander of the Agency, Ibrahim Bashir disclosed that a 29-year-old woman identified as Bisola Thomas was with 5.00kg substance, suspected to be Cannabis Sativa at her residence in Eiyenkorin at the suburb of Ilorin Metropolis while preparing for retail sales.

The Agency also arrested another Oloruntola Oluwatoyin, a 25-year-old female, who claimed to be a student of an institution in Offa, that prepares drinks and beverages with suspected Cannabis and other psychoactive substances.

According to him, one of the suspects who called herself a student and specialises in mixing drinks and beverages with Cannabis, Codeine and other psychoactive substances was arrested with about 69.9kg of cannabis, adding that she has a manufacturing outfit in her house where she produced the concoction.

Bashir added that the said student has her own stickers which is termed as tea cocktail, saying that her customers are the youths that organizes parties.

According to him, the containers of the substance do not have a NAFDAC number which makes it illegal and not healthy and safe for human consumption.

The NDLEA Commander, however, advised the general public to be wary of drinks they buy, saying not all drinks with labels contained good substance for human consumption, noting that the said student labelled her own product as tea cocktail,  birthday party, wedding anniversary and naming ceremony with no NAFDAC registration number.

Bashir explained further that the suspect buys Milo Sachets, open it and mixes it with psychoactive substances for sales to innocent people or her identified customers.

He disclosed that after the Agency’s investigation which is still on going, the arrested suspects will be charged to the Federal High Court, Ilorin.

While Speaking with Journalists, one of the arrested suspects, Bisola Thomas who claimed to be a single mother of three, admitted to the allegations levied against her, saying that she started dealing with the substance since she had no one to help her.

Thomas who revealed that she started the drug business this year, said she did not know that the drugs will have any negative implications on Nigerians.

She, however, confessed that she regrets her actions.

The second suspect, Oloruntola Oluwatoyin, a 25 year old female, who claimed to be a student of an institution in Offa, also admitted to the allegations levied against her.

Oluwatoyin also disclosed that she got the liquids she used to mix the psychoactive substances from a market in Offa.
