The Nigerian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Pantami says effective management is key to the development of the Nigerian Telecommunications sector in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (FIR) era.

Pantami stated this at the Training for Nigerian Communications Commission, (NCC) Board and Management training in Abuja Nigeria’s capital.

The training which was facilitated by Professor Pantami had the theme: “Effective Management in the 4th Industrial Revolution.

He tasked the participants on the need for professionalism, creativity and innovation in providing quality and effective service and to ensure healthy competition in the telecoms industry .

“Let us partake in self criticism , evaluation, self judgement and assessment and make adjustments.
I am not here to evaluate everyone of you rather do self evaluation from the beginning to end of our discussion.

“As stakeholders in the telecommunication industry the aim and mission of the entire ministerial meeting is about effective management in the FIR and taken the telecommunications sector to greater heights.

“It is your responsibility to do the best you can to improve the entire stakeholders in the sector not only within government in public offices but entire stakeholders involved in the sector.

He said managers are critical players in ensuring that organisation’s goals and objectives are achieved, hence the need to equip them with relevant skills and tools to sustain the employee performance and well-being.

The Minister emphasised on the importance of leadership skills and healthy living for managers as it enhances the performance and quality of service delivery .

“Let us ensure that after the two day event we become better managers and  leaders. It is better for leaders to under promise and over deliver rather than over promise and under deliver. If you promise 100% and deliver 80% you will be termed a failure. But if you promise 60% and deliver 80% you have over delivered.

“You must learn to do you assignments before deadline to avoid being under pressure to deliver and avoiding mistakes. And it is not also good for your health, to work under pressure that may result to high blood pressure.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC Professor Umar Danbatta reiterated the commission’s commitment in providing the enabling environment, adequate infrastructure and policies for the industry players to leverage on the Fourth Industrial Revolution as it is critical to the government’s digital economy agenda.

He said: With the successful auctioning and licensing of 3.5GH Spectrum towards the roll out of Information and mobile Telecommunications that is what we called the 5G service which upon deployment will increase the contribution of ICT sector to the GDP.

“These strides will enable the telecommunications sector provide the infrastructure backbone for powering the FIR in Nigeria.

“As leaders, great responsibility is placed on each of us to positively influence team members and colleagues towards our common purpose and vision .Today’s event will enhance our committee to continue to be entrepreneurial ensuring that our processes and approaches to managing our task moves the management to a better organisation.

“We are a truly world class organisation therefore we will continue to enhance our management strategies even in the FIR.”
