Head of Civil Service inducts promoted Directors

The Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation has commenced the Induction of newly promoted Directors in the Federal Civil Service.

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack at the ceremony which held in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital said the event was pivotal because 2025 marks the final year of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2025 (FCSSIP25).

She said the induction was not just an exercise,but a key investment exercise designed to provide the inductees with the necessary knowledge, skills and insights to function effectively in their new roles.

“You will learn about the policies and strategic priorities of the Federal Government, as well as the core values and ethical standards that define the Nigerian Civil Service.  Through this training, we aim to ensure that you understand the critical expectations placed on you as Directors and that you are fully equipped to manage the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead”. 

The progress made under FCSSIP25 has already set a strong foundation, but this final year presents an opportunity to consolidate gains and deliver results that will leave a lasting legacy.

Mrs Walson-Jack underscored the imperative of collaboration toward achieving the full implementation of the transformative reforms.

“To underscore our commitment to this goal, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation has adopted the theme for 2025: “FCSSIP25: Final Sprint – Delivering Results.Let it inspire you to innovate, collaborate, and lead with purpose in the execution of your duties”. 

She further disclosed that the OHCSF has adopted a slogan for this year: “2025: Year of Accomplishments.”

This slogan captures our collective resolve to make 2025 a year of exceptional achievements across the Civil Service. I urge you to internalize this mantra as a guiding principle in your work.

She encourages the inductees to embody the core values of FCSSIP25: accountability, meritocracy, professionalism, loyalty, and efficiency saying that they are the foundation of a responsive, transparent, and forward-thinking Civil Service.

The Head of Service also emphasised that by upholding these values, they will not only enhance the credibility of the Service, but also inspire confidence among the citizens they are privileged to serve.

“You are leaders now, and leadership comes with the responsibility to inspire, mentor, and deliver tangible results. Your actions will significantly impact the lives of millions of Nigerians who depend on the effectiveness of the Civil Service”. 

Mrs Walson-Jack added that the role of the Civil Servant has evolved significantly over time and no longer operates in the confines of routine administration.

The Permanent Secretary, Career Management Office, in the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Fatima Mahmoud said promotion to the rank of a  Director is not merely a recognition of dedication and competence; it is a call to lead with distinction and to navigate the increasingly dynamic and complex landscape of public governance.

She said the training will also align with the goals of Mr. President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to build a prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.

“This induction programme is part of the broader reforms under the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025 (FCSSIP25) and reflects our collective commitment to developing a world-class civil service that is efficient, responsive, and adaptive to change”.

Mrs Mahmoud noted that the training will focus on critical areas that will prepare the inductees for the tasks ahead.

 

Strategic leadership and governance, emphasizing the imperative of stewardship in your new role, Insights into ongoing civil service reform initiatives, such as the Service-Wise GPT, Govmail, the Compendium of Circulars, and the Federal Civil Service Online Academy, as well as perspectives on EPIC leadership, offering both external and internal views on navigating leadership challenges.

While she urged the traineees to approach the training with an open mind and a willingness to learn, unlearn, and innovate,

she also reminded them that their success in this role would contribute to the collective transformation of the Federal Civil Service, ensuring it remains a cornerstone of national development.
