Hockey: Delta Queens Lose To Ghana Revenue Authority

Nigeria’s representative at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup for Club Champions, Delta Queens Hockey Club, on Wednesday lost 3-1 to Ghana Revenue Authority (RA) in match day five of the of the competition, at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt.

Delta Queens, who defeated Sharkeika Sporting Hockey Club of Egypt 2-0 on match day four, suffered a significant defeat in the hands of their Ghanaian counterparts.The Nigerians displayed impressive skills, but were overpowered by their Ghanaian counterparts.

Coach of Delta Queens Hockey club, Ade Jacobs, praised his team’s performance.

“The girls played well, but unfortunately, we lost. The Egyptian umpire was not favourable to our team; we hope for the best, going forward,” Jacobs said. “At the rate at which the girls are going, we can play in the finals.”

“The event is going on fine, in spite of the cold weather, which has been a challenge for us. Nigerian teams are doing well and we are proud to be part of this tournament.”

In the other female match, Kada Queens secured a resounding 4-0 victory over Sharkeia HC, showcasing their strength and determination in the competition.

In the male category, Kada Stars could not replicate the success achieved by their female players after they succumbed to a 3-1 defeat against Sharkeia HC.

However, the momentum did not carry over for Niger Flickers, who suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat at the hands of Western Jaguars of Kenya. The loss ended Flickers hope of progressing beyond the group stage.

Five teams are representing Nigeria in the male and female categories of the competition. They are Delta Queens, Kada Queens of Kaduna and Plateau Queens of Jos, in the women’s category. For the men, Kada Stars of Kaduna and Niger Flickers of Minna are representing the country.

The championship, which started on January 31st, is expected to end on February 7th.
