Hong Kong reports 1,347 new COVID-19 cases
Hong Kong has reported 1,347 new daily COVID-19 infections on Sunday, down from the previous day’s record, but the spread, with 2,000 more suspected cases, threatens the city’s overstretched healthcare system, authorities said.
Hong Kong imposed new restriction this week, limiting in-person gatherings to no more than two households.
“It plans to allow only vaccinated people in shopping malls and supermarkets. Places of worship, hair salons and other businesses were ordered to close.”
Hong Kong health authorities are expected to report around 3,000 new COVID-19 cases, a record for daily infections.
The city is struggling with the worst outbreak of the pandemic as it tries to implement China’s zero-tolerance strategy using a mandatory quarantine for all travelers and mass testing.
