The hopes of Nigerian fans towards a successful AFCON 2022 campaign have received a massive boost following the sudden return of striker Victor Oshimhen to training with Napoli.
The 24-year old striker suffered multiple face fractures following a clash of heads during Napoli’s 3-2 defeat against Inter Milan at San Siro in November.
But a video released by his Serie A side on Wednesday showed the 2015 FIFA U-17 World champion engaged in field running and other forms of exercises.
He is most likely to play with a safety nose mask.
Prior to now, there were reports that Oshimhen would be out for at least eight weeks – which would have surely ruled him out of action for Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Cameroun next year.
His club Napoli already started making moves to prevent him from journeying back to play in Africa in a bid to ‘protect him.’
In his absence, Napoli have since fallen from the top of the Serie A table and are on the brink of elimination from Europe.
The next few days and weeks will surely be dicey for the Nigerian forward who must be feeling the heat from club and country.
