The Nigerian House of Representatives has urged the executive arm of government to urgently increase recruitment and training capacity for military and police to close the gap between available and required manpower to deal with the security challenges facing the country.
This followed a unanimous adoption of a motion on the incessant killings and abduction of people in Kaduna State.
Presenting the motion, Mr Yakubu Barde, a member from Kaduna State expressed concern that the incessant Kidnappings and killings has negative impact on food security, agriculture and employment
Mr Barde, who condemned the senseless killings and abductions of Nigerians stated that the problem has seriously affected the education sector in the State as the State government shutdown thirteen schools as a proactive measure to prevent further incidents.
“The kidnapping has become a reoccurring menace and has caused permanent panic in the usually peaceful community.
The armed bandits carry out these attacks unchallenged and no one has been apprehended, giving the bandits more courage to continue their nefarious activities.
I urged the Federal government to increase security presence in the area and that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) should come to the aid of the communities affected.” Mr. Barde added
Adopting the motion, the House called on all security agencies to take necessary measures to ensure early and safe return of all abductees and urged the government to increase the presence of security agents within the affected areas of the State.
