The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Dogowa, has appealed to his supporters to remain calm and be law abiding amidst reports making rounds that his re-election in the Saturday’s House of Representatives election was flawed.

The House leader in a statement he personally signed said that, he was declared the winner of the Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency of Kano State on Sunday by the returning officer, Ibrahim Yakasai at the INEC office in Tudun Wada.

According to him, he polled 39,732 votes to defeat his closest rival, Salisu Abdullahi of the NNPP, who polled 34,798 votes.

He said; “ I am appealing to my supporters and members of the APC to remain calm, be law abiding and disregard, all malicious and baseless publicity, fake news against my humble self as the truth would always prevail.”

Doguwa also denied that he was neither invited nor arrested by the Nigeria Police as speculated, promising that whenever invited, he will always make himself available to the law enforcement agency.

He said; “It is untrue that I have been arrested and I’m not aware of any formal or informal police invitation on any matter whatsoever.

” But if the police want or require my attention, I will always avail myself to answer any questions they may want to ask. I remain a responsible Nigerian citizen and can not be above the law in any guise whatsoever.”

Doguwa said all the pronouncements and media campaigns of calumny were designed by the opposition NNPP members to discredit the conduct of the free, fair, credible and transparent election conducted on February 25, 2023, by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Doguwa/ Tudun Wada, where electorate voted for his return to the House of Representatives.

He said; “I wish to make it abundantly clear that, our elections went on successfully and peacefully in all the 21 registration areas of my Federal Constituency.”

“The conduct of elections at polling units was generally hitch-free, collation of results in the 2 LGAs respectively was also done peacefully and in compliance with extant electoral procedures.

“The police and the independent electoral monitors and observers attest to this fact.”
