The House of Representatives has confirmed the Chief of Army Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
The confirmation followed the presentation of his screening report by the Chairman House committee on Army, Mr. Babajimi Benson, saying that the COAS was found worthy of the office in character and academics.
“On the 26th of November 2024, Parliament graciously appointed us to screen the Acting Service Chief. We carried out this task yesterday, reviewed his CV, and asked him questions on various issues, including inter-agency synergy and civilian-military relations. Our observation, Sir, is that General Olatumboso is qualified and suitable for the position. He provided a commendable account of himself. In conclusion, Sir, we urge this House to approve his appointment as the new Chief of Army Staff. I so move, Mr. Speaker.” Mr. Benson said.
The Deputy Speaker who presided over the committee said that there was only one recommendation in the report.
“That recommendation says that the ad-hoc committee carefully and thoroughly engaged with the nominee for the position of the Chief of Army Staff and was satisfied with his academic and professional qualifications, exposure, character, conduct, experience and general performance.

“The ad-hoc committee also observed that the nominee displayed wide and in-depth knowledge of strategies and tactics during his acting capacity. The committee hereby recommends that General Olatumbosun be confirmed as Chief of Army Staff,” Mr. Kalu said.

The House dissolved the committee to consider the report.

After consideration of the report, General Olatumbosun was confirmed by the House as Nigerian twenty-fourth Chief of Army Staff.
