The House of Representatives has directed the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps to restore security operatives recently withdrawn from Shimfida Village in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

This followed a motion under matters of urgent public importance on the need to restore security in the area sponsored Sada Soli Jibia, a member from Katsina State.

The lawmaker stated that last week, the combined security personnel stationed at the town were suddenly withdrawn without any notice or explanation to the State or Local Government, thereby causing people to panic and trek for nearly thirty kilometres to neighbouring Jibia town for safety.

Soli Jibia said in the course of this, ten people died due to exhaustion, while many suffered various ailments as a result of exposure to unfavourable weather conditions and hunger.

He added that “This has also resulted in a greater part of the town being destroyed by bandits and other criminal elements in the area.”

The lawmaker observed that the absence of the security personnel have caused the people to completely desert the village, leaving the elderly and the weak to suffer attacks, kidnappings and rape by bandits.

Adopting the motion, the house urged the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development as well as the National Emergency Management Agency to urgently provide relief materials to the displaced people.
