Security agencies have been urged to intensify efforts to end banditry and kidnapping along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.

The Chairman of the Kaduna State caucus in the House of Representatives, Alhaji Garba Datti, who made the call while briefing National Assembly correspondents expressed concern that the state of insecurity along the road has severely affected traveling on that axis “as Nigerians have either chosen to remain where they are or opted for means of transportation that are outside their means of convenience.”

Alhaji Datti described the Kaduna-Abuja highway as a key outlet for the transportation of persons, goods and services across Nigeria, as evident in the extraordinary traffic on it, stressing the need that the road be secured.

The Abuja-Kaduna highway is the critical gateway between the North and the Southern part of Nigeria and the major link road to the North West and North East as well as to many neighboring countries.” He added.

Within this week, bandits have attacked the highway twice, killing some travelers and kidnapping many people traveling to Abuja.
