Telecom giant MTN, Chinese-based Huawei Technology, and Nigeria’s Baze University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote 5G-powered learning and teaching innovations.

This followed the launch of MTN-Baze University 5G2Business in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital which stakeholders say would enable the institution to leverage fifth-generation technology to transform learning and administration.

The Baze University’s acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kathleen Okafor disclosed to journalists at the launch held at the school that the tripartite partnership will also open more doors to creative access to quality education.

She said the initiative will unleash the full applicability of 5G, which offers faster connectivity to expand the institution’s academic and administrative activities.

Applauding MTN and Huawei for agreeing to partner with the school, Okafor said the initiative would enhance its smart classroom concept and reduce course durations through ready access to lecture notes, especially for online programmes.

“The institution will strengthen lectures, course works, assignment sharing, and instant feedback from students. The new program will ensure that online learning creates smooth holographic access. Learning experience can be specialised with a more effective time management with stronger and faster signals network from the 5G technology creating a better virtual learning,” she stated.

The 5G deployment is also expected to create more effective security video footage for real-time coverage, enabling an effective response to security threats.

For Huawei’s Country Accounts Director, Joey Wu, the initiative is the first such proactive step into the future of campus learning and interaction with the environment.

“The digital transformation in education will expand and unlock opportunities for education as well as the business sector. We will unlock the deployment of more technology for Nigeria for a brighter future,” Wu said.
