A human rights lawyer, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has expressed gratitude to the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety), for its meticulous reports detailing the systemic human rights violations and atrocities in Eastern Nigeria, notably the violent invasion in Anambra State.

Ejiofor remarked that these comprehensive publications, titled “Ocean of Innocent Blood Flowing in Eastern Nigeria” and “Human Rights Made in Nigeria,” serve as indispensable resources for the global human rights community.

The reports offer an in-depth analysis of the severe violations endured by vulnerable citizens, spotlighting issues ranging from extrajudicial killings and torture to enforced disappearances and rampant property destruction.

He emphasized that such atrocities continue to jeopardize the sanctity of life and undermine fundamental freedoms in the region.

In his statement, Ejiofor said, “Your painstaking effort in documenting these injustices is commendable and crucial. The reports, supported by esteemed international experts and human rights advocates, illuminate the egregious acts committed against defenseless individuals.”

He particularly praised Intersociety’s commitment to highlighting systemic governance failures and the complicity of both state and non-state actors in perpetuating these violations.

Ejiofor noted that the urgent call to action for international organizations, including the United Nations (UN) and the International Criminal Court (ICC), stresses the necessity of holding the perpetrators accountable and ensuring justice for victims.

“This significant contribution not only enriches the discourse on human rights but also serves as a vital resource for policymakers, researchers, and advocates worldwide. As someone personally affected by these heinous violations, I am encouraged by the dedication of everyone involved in this initiative,” he added.

The lead counsel for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ejiofor, concluded with a hopeful message, calling for collective action to restore justice, peace, and human dignity in Eastern Nigeria.

“Let this monumental work inspire all of us in the ongoing fight for human rights and accountability,” he urged.
