Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development said there’s need for sensitisation and re-strategising to curb the menace of human trafficking in Nigeria.

The Minister, Sadiya Umar Farouq made the call in Abuja on the prevention of Human Trafficking, Irregular Migration, Sexual and Gender based Violence organised by Roost Foundation.

Represented by the Head Planning, Research and Statistics in the Ministry, Hajjarra A .T Ahmed, the Minister said trafficking is a complex issue that should be approached in a way that can be harnessed.

According to her, all hands must be on deck to continue to make progress on the efforts towards eliminating the threat.

“We must however, do more than just talk as has been said here all the time, and it is about action. We must all resolve to contribute our quota both in our official and personal capacities”.

“As a Ministry, we are not resting on our oars. We are doing everything to ensure that our relevant agencies receive adequate support and funding to effectively discharge their duties”, Ahmed emphasised

For her part, the Executive Chairman, Julie Okah said the Town hall was organised to provide avenues for serious discourse of National concerns.

“You will agree with me that these issues have dominated the Post Covid-19 lockdown era. Indeed the lockdown exacerbated a lot of social problems especially domestic violence including intimate partner violence, child abuse, Sodomy, rape and other ugly tendencies”, Okah pointed out.

Okah added that the Foundation was working with like-minded stakeholders to confront the crimes and to seek a national consensus on legal and institutional frameworks necessary to stem the impacts of these crimes.
