HYPPADEC promises to end perennial flooding in riverian areas

The Chairman Governing Council of the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC),
Mr Joseph Terfa Ityav has assured that the commission will carry out complete assessment of all the flooded areas to enable it put an end to perennial flooding all year round.

Mr Terfa Ityav stated this during a familiarisation visit of Council members of the Commission to the Palace of Etsu -Tsaragi, Alhaji Abdullahi Kpoto, Emir of Shonga, Dr Haliru Yahaya, Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Saadu Kawu Haliru and Etsu Patigi, Alhaji Ibrahim Bologi in Edu and Patigi local government area of Kwara state.

He also pledged that the  commission will ensure fairness and Justice in  citing projects in host Communities suffering from perennial flooding on the river banks.

According to him,  the rivers and the Dams will be properly channelised to prevent siltation and possible over flow of water.

Mr Terfa Ityav explained that the Commission will ensure all ecological issues affecting the host Communities are resolved without necessarily tampering with their source of livelihood.

He appealed to members of the host Communities and their leaders to support the Commission to enable it achieve all it’s set goals.

In his remark the Etsu Tsaragi, Alhaji Abdullahi Kpoto advised the Council members not to allow the introduction of politics into the activities of the Commission.

He also urged them to ensure close consultation with the host Communities before embarking on any project.

In his own comment,  the Emir of Shonga, Dr Haliru Yahaya advocated for permanent relocation of people living close to the river banks to save resources.

He also called on the Commission to introduce programmes that will remove the people from poverty.

In his address,  the Emir of Lafiagi , Alhaji Saadu Kawu Haliru expressed confidence that the team will do a good job for the host Communities.

This remark,  the Etsu Patigi, Alhaji Ibrahim Bologi the second, urged the council members to be focused in the discharge of their assignments.
