Ibadan has been thrown into mourning following the death of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, Ige Olakulehin I, who passed away on Monday, barely one year after ascending the throne as the 43rd Olubadan.
According to Voice of Nigeria, the monarch, who ascended to the throne in July 2024, died in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, after serving one year in office.
Oba Olakulehin received the staff of office from the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, on July 12, 2024, becoming the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The news of his demise has elicited profound sorrow throughout the Ibadan community and beyond.
Sources connected to the palace indicated that Oba Olakulehin’s passing occurred at a time when he was actively engaged in the affairs of the kingdom, significantly contributing to the promotion of the cultural heritage and traditions of the Yoruba kingdom.
The late monarch will be remembered for his exemplary leadership and wisdom, which garnered him respect and admiration from his subjects and the broader community.
Oba Olakulehin was born on July 5, 1935, and he passed away just two days following the celebration of his 90th birthday.
