The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has partnered with the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to enhance their joint anti-corruption efforts.
Key collaboration strategies were discussed when the Acting Controller General of the NCoS, Sylvester Ndidi Nwabuche, MFR, led his team on a visit to ICPC Chairman, Mr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, in Abuja on Tuesday.
Mr. Aliyu appreciated the NCoS leadership for the visit and emphasised the importance of collaboration in sensitisation, training, and signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
He suggested using ex-convicts to educate Nigerians about crime and corruption, highlighting the impact of real-life experiences.
He also stressed the value of mutual training programs and resolving any challenges between both agencies.
The ICPC Chairman underscored the necessity of an MoU to formalize and strengthen their working relationship.
In his remarks, NCoS Chief Mr. Ndidi Nwabuche reaffirmed his agency’s commitment to corruption prevention, which prompted the initiative to engage with ICPC.
“On 15 December 2024, I was appointed as the head of the service by President Tinubu. I felt I should reach out to agencies that impact my office, and you are one of them. I want to thank the Commission for its far-reaching value.
We are here to interface with you and deepen our relationship in the area of training and fighting corruption. Just like you, I am also an advocate of prevention,” he stated.
He further expressed satisfaction with the strong relationship between NCoS and ICPC, noting the positive outcome of the recently published Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard (EICS).
He assured the Commission of his agency’s willingness to align with any proposed framework to tackle corruption-related challenges effectively.
