I’m Not Under Pressure In Kigali, Says Hana Goda

As Egyptian sensation Hana Goda targets another record at the 2024 ITTF Africa Cup in Rwanda, the defending champion in the Women’s Singles of the tournament is confident that she is now used to playing under intense pressure and would therefore conquer the competition in Kigali.

Goda, 16, who is the youngest African champion, is in Kigali with the sole aim of retaining her title. This, she admitted, would be difficult amidst the array of stars seeking to dethrone her in the East African nation.

“I know that defending my title every time in Africa becomes harder with each tournament because we have a lot of good players on the continent,” Goda said.

“There is no doubt that everybody is eyeing the highest prize. In my usual style, I will surely give my best and hopefully I can retain my title.”

Since winning her maiden Africa title in 2022, Goda has been unbeaten in all continental tournaments, claiming the African Championships and Games in Tunis and Accra.

Her challengers in Rwanda have an uphill task though as Goda is thrilled with the state-of-the-art facility in Kigali. This, she said, would inspire her to deliver her best table tennis performance at the tournament.
