Imbibe Spirit of Ramadan in new Democratic Dispensation – NUJ

The Nigeria Union Of Journalists has facilitated With Muslims on this year’s Eid-al-Fitr, urging them to imbibe the spirit of Ramadan as the country ushers in a new democratic Dispensation.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Kano state Council Chairman, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim in north Western Nigeria.

The council calls on Muslims to imbibe the lessons of Ramadan which include love, sacrifice,  peace and brotherhood as the country ushers in a new democratic dispensation.

“The council appreciates the role of journalists, Security Agencies, INEC civil society organisations, the electorate and other stakeholders in the just concluded elections in the state and the country at large.

“While urging people to continue to support democratic values, the NUJ Called on elected leaders to put the country First as they come up with people-oriented programs that will address Economic, Social and Political challenges,” noted Comrade Abbas Ibrahim.

According to him, the Union also felicitates with in-coming and outgoing administrations in the state on the Sallah celebrations while urging media practitioners to strictly adhere to their professional ethics in the discharge of their duties.

He stressed the need for citizens to be extra vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies, just as he prayed for hitch-free Eid-al-Fitr celebrations and a prosperous rainy season.

Meanwhile, the Kano state police command has assured of adequate security for citizens before during and after the Eid-al-Fitr Sallah celebrations.

The Acting Commissioner of Police for the state, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, DCP Mu’azu U. Mohammed gave the assurance in a statement released by the spokesperson of the command ASP Haruna Kiyawa.

He enjoined the good people of the State to be law-abiding as adequate security arrangements have been made at various praying grounds and recreational centres in synergy with sister security agencies and other civil volunteers in the State for the enforcement of law and order.

“Worshippers going to Eid Praying Grounds to avoid carrying unnecessary objects that may trigger suspicions or apprehension.

 “Under-aged children and unlicensed persons are not allowed to operate Motor vehicles, Tricycles, and Motorcycles while going to Eid praying grounds and places of visit.

 “Parents and Guardians should always accompany their children with adults while going to Eid Praying grounds to checkmate cases of missing children, accidents, or any unsolicited dealings,” advised Muazu.

He, however, warned any group or individual under whatever guise to desist from any act or conduct that will cause a breach of peace and breakdown of Law and Order, stressing that whoever is caught engaging in such activities will face the full wrath of the law.
