The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Imo State, southeast Nigeria, has expressed their readiness for the State House of Assembly Elections scheduled for Saturday, 18th March, 2023.

According to the Head, INEC Voter Education and Publicity Unit, Mrs. Emmanuella Ben Okpara, the commission is at least ninety-eight percent ready for the elections. She stated that all the essential electoral materials have been dispatched to the various local governments, and all the INEC supervisory staff already deployed.

To further ensure a better conduct of the Saturday polls, the commission conducted a Refreshers Training for the Collation and Returning Officers in the state, who after the training were posted to various electoral wards and local governments.

In her words, ” INEC is ready in line with the Electoral Act and Guidelines for the election”.

Note that Imo is one of the few states in Nigeria not conducting gubernatorial elections at the moment. This is as a result of the Supreme Court’s ruling that removed the former governor, Emeka Ihedioha, and brought in the incumbent, Senator Hope Uzodimma.
