Preparations are on top gear to ensure a hitch free gubernatorial election in South Eastern state of Imo, on Saturday 11th of November.
Imo State is among the three states in Nigeria that are having their governorship elections on Saturday.
Security personnel are in strategic areas of the city ensuring there is no security hitch.
A visit to Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC office in Owerri also showed huge presence of armed security personnel and armored vehicles with INEC staff and Ad-hoc staff sitting in groups, chatting and waiting for posting directives.
The Public Relations officers, PRO of INEC in Imo State, Godslight Maryann says INEC has distributed both sensitive and non sensitive materials to different Local Government Areas of Imo State.
“ We have done so much. It’s going to be an inclusive election. We are very ready for this election. We are very ready. The materials are already out there in the field. All our materials including the sensitive materials. As a matter of fact, our sensitive materials were moved to Local Governments on Thursday, accompanied by security agents, and they will be on ground till elections are over, to make sure they are safe and secured,” she said.
The Imo PRO also said that INEC started voter education months back to ensure a hitch free exercise.
“We started voter education months back. We started voter education very early. We conducted voter education for various of people, the PWDs the People with disabilities, we provided them with assisting devices to help improve their confidence and independence in the process. We also taught them on the use of those devices. We also taught the media, we had a training with the media, with security agents, ad hoc staff and core staff, we started trainings months back to ensure that all stakeholders are fully aware of what INEC expectations are of them. As for the trainings, we believe we have done well. We also want to be confident that they will deliver,” she opined.
With less than 24 hours to the gubernatorial election, Imo state capital city of Owerri is wearing a calm look, with the citizens going about their normal tasks.
