Inauguration: North West Governors sworn into office

Kano State

The new Governor of Kano state Abba Yusuf  has been sworn in with the promise to speedily enhance human and material resources development to meet the yearnings and aspiration of the people who overwhelmingly voted him to power in the last election

The oath of office/allegiance was administered by the Chief Juge of Kano state Dije Aboki at the Sani Abacha stadium, Kofar Mata Kano.

The ceremony began with the swearing-in of the Deputy Governor, comrade Aminu Abduldalam, after which the governor was sworn in an event witnessed by hundreds of thousands of New Nigeria Peoples Party faithful and other dignitaries.

Yusuf in his inaugural speech promised to improve the water supply system in the state to alleviate the challenges currently being faced by the populace.

He said youth education, skills acquisition and employment will form the fulcrum of his administration and as the philosophy of the Kwankwasiya movement.

He said another pillar of his administration will be fight against corruption so that revenue generated can be utilized for the betterment of the people.

“We are here to serve . We will do this and succeed with the collaboration of all stakeholders,” he said

He acknowledged the challenges posed by the over 241 billion naira debt liabilities inherited  from the immediate past administrion but  said extra work will be done to meet expectations of the teeming population that voted him and others to power.

Colourful Parade was conducted at the Sani Abacha stadium, venue of the event by the military and paramilitary agencies to herald the inauguration.

The streets of Kano was made colourful as mamot crowd of children, women and men from.villags and the metroplolis trooped out in their white attire with red caps to match, an insigma for the Kwankwasiya movement.

Others wore dressings to reflect the NNPP flag of red, white and blue collours as well as green, white and green reflecting Nigeria’s national flag as music rents the air.

Usman Umar said the  happy mood reflects expectations of the people from the new government.

“They have tested the encouraging developments that took place during the Kawankwaso led administration between 2011 and 2015.  This new regime is equally seen as an of shoot of that government.

“So they are expecting improved education, health, employment, skills acquisition, agricultural revolution among others, hence the jubilation” he said.

Prior to the inauguration, a hand over ceremony was held at the goverment house kano in the early hours of Monday morning.

 

Kebbi State

The New Governor of Kebbi State, Doctor Nasiru Idris, has taken the oath of Office administered by the Acting Chief Judge, Justice Umar Abubakar at Haliru Abdu Stadium Birnin Kebbi Today.

In his acceptance Speech, the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, Doctor Nasiru Idris has bowed to blocked financial leakages, widespread corruption and enrichment by public officers.

He called on the people of the state to join hands in moving the State forward.

The Kebbi State Governor, promised to achieve an Agenda that will give priority on Security, Agriculture, Education, Roads as well as initiated programme support people at the grassroots and general welfare of all.

 

Kaduna State

The Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani has taken his oath of office with a promise to run an inclusive government by carrying everyone along irrespective of political party differences.

Kaduna Chief Judge, Justice Tukur Mu’azu Aliyu administered the oath of office to the Governor at the Murtala square in the State.

Uba said he would ensure that insecurity became a thing of the past in the state, stressing that he would work closely with his counterparts in the zone to tackle insecurity.

“My dear brothers and sisters, elections are over, it is time for the tough job of governance. I shall be a Governor for all. I plead with you all to work with us to achieve peace, safety and security across every community in this state. On my part, I will work assiduously to guarantee the safety and security of our hardworking farmers to actively return to their farms during the current farming season.”

“The prevailing security situation in the country demands for a significant shift in the current structure. In this regards, I will work with my counterparts and members of the National and State Assemblies to make state police a reality. I was in the forefront of advocacy for state police in the 9th Senate. I strongly believe that state police is the panacea for our perennial security challenges. Security is basically a local affair and it demands for a local approach.”

He gave the assurance that his administration will consolidate and build on the unprecedented infrastructural upgrade, which was targeted at enhancing public welfare and accelerated economic growth.

According to Sani, he would promote accelerated rural development by extending infrastructure to all local government areas with the goal of supporting rural communities to achieve rapid economic growth.

“Our governance agenda in the economic sector will seek to sustain the enviable status of Kaduna state as a foremost investment destination in Nigeria, attract investments across more sectors, create jobs and promote the transfer of technology.

“Kaduna State under my leadership shall continue to focus on agriculture for food security and economic prosperity. We have perfected plans for the expansion of support for Agriculture in several areas. This administration will be devoted to building and empowering people for development and prosperity.”

He further stated that, commitment to human capital development shall entail detailed focus on social welfare and empowerment through dedicated funds for women and youths, robust social investment programmes for vulnerable persons and extensive pro-poor interventions.  

“We shall also ensure access to education for every child in the state from primary to secondary school, expand access to higher education through a multi-campus system for tertiary institutions, enhance teachers’ Welfare & teaching standards, improve school infrastructure; build ICT competence in students from basic education level and intensify investments in technical & vocational education.”

Katsina State

Malam Dikko Umar-Radda has been sworn-in as the Governor of Katsina State with a promise to provide peace and prosperity for the state.

Umar-Radda who was sworn-in at Muhammad Dikko Stadium, Katsina on Monday stated that “Over the next four years, our task as government is to provide peace and prosperity for the people of Katsina State.

“The insecurity issue will be paramount to this administration, and I will deploy all available resources in ending banditry and criminality across the state, with the will of Allah.

“We will also engage communities to ensure that security is sustained.

“Those affected by banditry and insecurity, I assure you, my administration will do its best to build your lives.

“We will focus on your mental wellbeing and provide special support to women and girls who have endured unimaginable pains,” he said.

The new governor admonished those engaging in banditry to shun the act and reintegrate themselves into the society or be dealt with severely.

Sokoto State

In Sokoto State, Dr Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto has been sworn-in as the State Governor by Chief Justice of the State, Justice Sai’du Muhammad Sifawa.

The Chief Justice administered the oath of office to Dr Aliyu shortly after his Deputy, Idris Muhammad Gobir took his oath of office at Giginya Stadium, Sokoto.

In his inaugural Speech, Governor Aliyu called on the opposition to join hands with his administration towards rebuilding the state.

“We have the desire for new Sokoto state that will be accepted by all citizens in the state, as such I call on those that contested and failed the election to join us in realising our dream of new sokoto state,” he said.

Governor Aliyu also promised not to fail the People that gave them their mandate by fulfilling the campaign promises they made.

He said a mechanism would be drafted to ensure effective implementation of his 9-Points campaign pledges.

“We want to assure you that we would not disappoint you with the mandate given to us and we would continue to seek for your advice on all our decision.

“I am sure electorates have not forgotten our 9-points agenda campaign promises and we would ensure with the limited available resources we deliver,” he noted.

Governor Aliyu also reassured that his administration would focus more on youth empowerment, security, water supply, sanitation, education and other economic drive.

He further reiterated his administration’s commitments to partner with the federal government to eradicate poverty, improve security and promote human capital development in the state.

The Ceremony was attended by the Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, His eminence, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar the III, former Governors Aliyu Wamakko and Malam Yahaya Abdulkarim.

Others were former Deputy Governors, Alhaji Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo and Mukhtar Shehu Shagari, former Ambassadors, Head of Security Agencies in the state, Religious and Traditional leaders.

There were also officials from Niger Republic among other neighbouring countries.
