The Nigerian House of Representatives has extended warm felicitations to all Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, as the nation marks its 65th Independence Anniversary.
The House says Independence Day is not just a date in history but a reminder of the county’s shared identity.
“It is also a call to rededicate ourselves to the ongoing task of building a country that lives up to its enormous promise,” the House said.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Abbas Tajudeen, in a congratulatory message to Nigerians, urged citizens to embrace this moment as a time of sober reflection and renewed commitment to national progress.
Speaker Abbas noted that Nigeria’s journey has been marked by both daunting trials and remarkable achievements.
He encouraged Nigerians not to be disheartened by the current security and socio-economic challenges but to remain steadfast, prayerful, and patriotic.
He affirmed that, with the country’s immense human capital and abundant natural resources, the dream of a just, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria remains within reach.
“God has indeed blessed the country with immeasurable human and natural resources. What is required is a collective effort by all stakeholders to build the nation of our dreams, transcending religious, ethnic, and political differences.
“From the first parliament in 1960, Nigerians have recognized the legislature as the true custodian of representative democracy. Despite interruptions during periods of military rule, the legislature has always stood as a symbol of the people’s sovereignty and their right to representation. Since the return to civil rule in 1999 and the advent of the Fourth Republic, the National Assembly has worked tirelessly to deepen democracy, strengthen institutions, and give practical expression to the aspirations of our citizens,” Mr. Abbas said.

He said that at 65, the House of Representatives reaffirms its solemn duty to legislate with integrity, to provide oversight that strengthens institutions, to defend the vulnerable, and to be a bridge of understanding in the society.
“While we acknowledge that we still have a long way to go in achieving the Nigeria of our dreams, we must also celebrate how far we have come as a people in strengthening democracy, promoting unity, and laying the foundations of a more just and prosperous society.”
On his part, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s 65th Independence anniversary.
In his message, Mr. Kalu urged the citizens to rekindle their hope and renew commitment towards building a nation that benefits everyone.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s journey, Mr. Kalu acknowledged the nation’s challenges but expressed optimism about its progress toward greatness.
He emphasized the significance of the Renewed Hope Agenda, initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and encouraged Nigerians to remain patient and work together in harnessing their diversity, resilience, and determination for the development of the country.
The Deputy Speaker noted that the agenda embodied collective aspirations for a Nigeria where citizens thrive and opportunities abound, stressing that
working together will help build a nation that reflects the dreams of Nigeria’s founding fathers.
Mr. Kalu reaffirmed his commitment to serving Nigerians and contributing to the nation’s growth as a federal lawmaker, assuring that the Parliament will continue to prioritize people-orientated legislations.
“As we celebrate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, we reflect on our nation’s journey, achievements, and challenges. This milestone reminds us of the sacrifices made by our forebears and the collective efforts towards nation-building.
“As a representative of the people, I’m honoured to reaffirm my commitment to serving Nigerians and contributing to our nation’s growth.
“I have faith in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR which embodies our collective aspirations for a Nigeria where citizens thrive, opportunities abound, and our nation takes its rightful place globally. It’s a call to action for us to work together, harnessing our diversity, resilience, and determination.
“As we mark this significant day, let’s rekindle our hope, renew our commitment, and work tirelessly towards building a Nigeria that reflects the dreams of our founding fathers. Together, we can achieve greatness.” Mr. Kalu said.
The Deputy Speaker wished all Nigerians a fruitful Independence Day anniversary, praying for God’s guidance toward a prosperous future for Nigeria.
Similarly, the member representing Lavun Mokwa and Edati Federal Constituency of Niger state, Mr. Joshua Audu Gana congratulated Nigerians on 65 years milestone.
He noted that the future of the country is bright and encouraged the citizens to have faith and tarry.
Mr. Gana wished Nigerians a happy Independence Day celebration.
In the same vain, Chairman, House Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values, Mr. Steve Olusola Fatoba heartily congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of Independence.
He also commended the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Tajudeen Abbas, on his exemplary leadership and commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
“Your dedication to fostering unity, national orientation, and good governance remains a shining inspiration. I wish you greater wisdom and success as you continue to steer the affairs of the House for the progress of our nation,” Mr. Fatoba added.
