INEC Advocates For Responsible Reporting of Ondo Governorship Election

Media practitioners have been urge to intensify efforts on accurate reportage that will ensure peaceful elections in Nigeria.
The statement was made by the Chairman of the country’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, during this year’s last quarterly consultative meetings with media organisation in Abuja Nigeria’s capital.
The Chairman of the Commission said the meeting was held inline with the INEC’s preparations for the November 16th offcycle Governorship election in Ondo State,  Southwest Nigeria.
Professor Yakubu said that the electoral umpire has “accredited one hundred and twelve national and international media organisations” and “seven hundred journalists, technicians and other personnel to facilitate their coverage of the election”.
He assured that there was significant improvement in the areas of preparations such as collection of  permanent Voters Cards and creation of awareness on voters registration.
