The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Enugu State, South East Nigeria has assured that the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections will be free, fair and credible across all the 17 Local Government Areas.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Joseph Chukwuemeka gave the assurance while giving an update on the Commission’s readiness to conduct the rescheduled, Saturday, March 18 polls.
Chukwuemeka explains that three elections will be conducted simultaneously in Enugu East Senatorial district on that date, namely; the governorship, State House of Assembly, and the rescheduled Senatorial election, assuring that the electoral body is on top of the security arrangements.
INEC had rescheduled the March 25th Senatorial election in Enugu East District to March 18, following the brutal murder of the Labour Party Senatorial candidate for the election, Oyibo Chukwu just three days to the polls.
He explained that all the required sensitive election materials are in place and have been distributed to all the 17 Local Government Areas of the State.
Also the Enugu State Public Relation’s Officer, Mr Victor Okafor told Voice of Nigeria that INEC conducted a refresher training course for the supervising presiding officers.
Mr. Okafor further said the Presiding and Assistant Presiding Officers who would be working at the polling units also had their refresher training at their respective Rac centers.
He further revealed that the transportation aspect of the excersize is being sorted out as commercial vehicles and mini buses are being parked at INEC office.
He urged the voters not to worry about INEC officials coming late to d poll station promising there would be no case of voters arriving to wait for INEC officials that instead the officials would be there waiting for voters.
He however advised the people Enugu state to come out enmass to vote that the excersize would be worthwhile
