The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s bye-election in Lagos, Fuad Laguda has been declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Laguda polled 11,203 votes at the Surulere Federal Constituency 1, bye-election to beat his closest rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Jerry Afemhike who polled 278 votes.

According to the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Simeon Adebayo, the APC candidate won in all the polling units in the constituency.

Laguda will replace the former Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila who resigned following his appointment as Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Though adjudged as peaceful and well-organised, Saturday’s bye-election was characterised by low voter turnout.
