INEC receives Election Results from 6 LGAs in Cross-River

Presidential election results have started trickling in to the INEC Collation Centre in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, southern Nigeria.

The Collation Officer for the Presidential Election, Professor Akpofure Rim-Rukeh apologized for commencing the exercise later than expected, attributing the delay to “the difficult terrain.”

Rim-Rukeh wasted no time in attending to the Returning Officers and Local Government Collation officers from 6 out of 18 local government areas.

First to present results were:

Etung LGA.

Number of Registered voters: 43,872

Accredited voters: 7,951

Votes by party:

APC – 2713

PDP – 2149

LP – 2345

Valid votes: 7,465

Rejected votes:  430

Calabar South:

Number of Registered voters: 160,824

Accredited voters: 41, 473

Votes by party:

APC : 9,060

LP – 24,247

PDP: 4,255

Valid votes -38,608

Rejected votes: 2854

Total votes cast: 41,462

Abi LGA

Registered voters: 63,199

Accredited voters : 18,384

APC – 8011

Valid votes – 17,773

Akpabuyo LGA

Registered voters: 65,757

Accredited voters: 15,723

The Returning Officers each reported cases of cancellations due to over voting, security threats leading to disruption of voting in a few polling units, stolen BVAS machine at Biko Biko Ward Unit 9 in Yakurr local government area.

While awaiting results from other areas, the presidential collation officer called for a recess to resume at about 4pm.

Meanwhile,  the people of Dayspring 1 and 2 including the Qua Island have called on the Electoral Umpire to fresh presidential and national assembly elections in their locality.

The people, who converged at the home of their leader, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa in Calabar to address the press, raised concerns about the number of eligible voters, who would be disenfranchised.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Professor Gabriel Yomere had earlier announced the extension of election period in Dayspring 1 and 2 including Qua Island.
